 Applying to Shows

There are currently a number of options to assist you with finding shows in your neighborhood or nationwide.  Zapplication is the most widely used online program that allows artists to submit applications to art shows through one central web site using high resolution digital images of their artwork for jury review.  Entry Thingy is a new (2009) online application service that is also free to artists. JuriedArtServices is another online jurying system for Crafts America shows, the Smithsonian Craft Show, the Northern Virginia (Reston) show and others.

Each of the digital jurying services provides information on their website about specifications. Zapplication.org, Juried Art Services and Entrythingy. You may also wish to visit the tutorial provided by NAIA member Larry Berman for creating ZAPP™-ready images.

 Buy/Sell/Imports

There is not a definitive answer to this ongoing delima. If you are a show that does not allow imports at your show and you suspect one of the artists is peddling buy/sell products, you can first check www.manta.com for information about the artist if they are registered as a small business.

We asked shows, NAIA member and non-member, what steps they take to prevent buy/sell in their shows. The following is what we received from several across the country, large and small. We thank these shows for sharing their strategies so that shows and artists alike may get a idea of the work done to ensure that they are venues for original art:
